About

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) is an Executive Agency of the UK Ministry of Defence. We work to deliver high-impact science and technology for the benefit of the UK’s defence, security and prosperity.

We provide sensitive and specialist science and technology (S&T) research, advice and analysis for the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) and wider Government. Since we were formed in 2001, we have built an excellent reputation for world class S&T, due to the expertise and commitment of our staff and our partners.

Role In the National Laboratories Alliance

Dstl is home to some of the world’s leading experts in Science and Technology; located on several sites with first-class facilities, many of which are available for use with our partners, including those within the National Laboratories Alliance.

While Dstl’s biggest customer is MOD, we also provide evidence, expertise and facilities in support of more than 40 Government Departments and Agencies.

We work with our partners in industry and academia, in the UK and across the globe, using science and technology to help to solve defence and security challenges for the safety and security of the UK.
