About
At HSE, our mission is to prevent work-related death, injury and ill health as Great Britain’s regulator. Our risk-based approach to regulation, means we direct attention to those workplaces and hazards where we need to act to remove risk and prevent workers being harmed.
Our scientific work, supported by regulatory and policy colleagues, is vital in enabling us to understand risks better so that we can intervene in the right way, at the right place and at the right time.
Having a robust evidence base enables us to tackle real issues causing pain and suffering in the workplace. Critically, it enables us to better understand developing issues and ways of working to ensure that we support innovation, rather than stifle it through lack of knowledge.
We collaborate with others, which contributes to improving how we regulate health and safety risks proportionately and effectively.
We develop solutions via range of channels to help our dutyholders with:
- Asset Integrity
- Risk Management
- Human Factors
- Worker Health and Wellbeing
- Data and Analysis
- Energy Innovation
- Health and Safety by Design
- Regulatory Design
Role In the National Laboratories Alliance
As part of the National Laboratories Alliance we share knowledge across Government of the role of Public Laboratories, building on our long experience of working with policymakers within HSE and other Government Departments. Case studies demonstrating the benefits of our robust scientific capabilities are given in the HSE Annual Science Reviews available at www.hse.gov.uk
