About
The Met Office is the UK’s National Meteorological Service and one of the world’s leading centres for weather and climate research. The Met Office is responsible for the timely provision of accurate weather forecasts and severe weather warnings crucial to protecting lives, livelihoods and critical national infrastructure. We provide many other vital services, scientific evidence and advice in key areas such as defence, climate change, international development, security and transport.
Role In the National Laboratories Alliance
The Met Office provides a national capability for weather forecasts and climate change prediction. We collaborate with many partners nationally and globally to deliver emergency response advice on hazards such as floods, heatwaves, storms, severe cold, volcanic eruptions, space weather, and atmospheric pollution from accidents.
